Our Story
We met at a friend's party in 2019, where Hannah first saved Rob's contact info as "Under the Sea guy," thanks to his performance of the song during the party. Hannah had just moved to SLC in 2018 and met some mutual friends who invited her along. We remained friends in the same orbit until 2020. During the Covid-19 pandemic we both feared losing our jobs: Rob sold his house and was living half-time on his sailboat in LA and half-time in an old ambulance (The Ambo) that he was converting into an RV, and Hannah was about to move into our VERY generous friend Amy's basement with another pilot afraid of losing her job. (Amy had just had her first baby, and now had two homeless pilots living downstairs.) We went on our first date in July of 2020 — a hike to the top of Bells Canyon Falls for a picnic dinner at sunset. We would both WAY rather be on wheels in the mountains, but we had a great time.
What we've built since is mostly made of motion. We've visited fifteen countries, slept in castles, tents, huts, sailboats, and the back of an ambulance, ridden mountain bikes all over the world, learned to paraglide, Hannah bought a house, Rob joined Hannah at Delta, we both upgraded to Captain, and we bought a place of our own together. Through all of it we've spent countless nights under the stars with the best friends and family we could ever ask for, swimming in the middle of the ocean at midnight, riding scooters through sugarcane fields, climbing to the tops of mountains, and dropping in on nieces and nephews along the way. It has been the most wonderful, fantastic life, and the luckiest part is the people in it.
We got engaged years later on the Isle of Bute in Scotland, at the ruins of St. Blane's Chapel — a 10th-century church at the top of a rolling, grassy island — with twenty-five of our favorite people who'd flown over for our friend Casey's 40th. Afterward, a distillery owner pulled us into a traditional Scottish handfasting, binding our hands to "tie the knot." With everyone we love gathered around, it felt exactly right — and we can't wait to have that same feeling with all of you!
